After some very careful consideration, I have decided to shut down the Shadow Democracy blog. My reasons are diverse - some very personal. I feel compelled to offer a brief explanation to my readers for this decision.

Recent months have seen some dramatic events in my life, including the death of two close family members - one being my mother. As a result of these events, the time I traditionally dedicated to this blog and the quality of its content, I felt, was compromised. I am currently unable to post daily as I wish to, and I am also unable to research my posts properly. My readers deserve better, and frankly, so do I.

I will be relaunching a new blog in the coming weeks that will be hosted on Wordpress, and I hope my loyal reading will find the way to the new site. In the mean time, I urge all of you to check out a blog that I hope to network with, run by a an informed and very dear friend of mine at ideasandrevolution.net. Thank you for your support.

Best Regards,

Matthew J. Podoba, Editor Shadow Democracy

One of Hillary Clinton’s last lines of defense against the onslaught that is Barack Obama in her continual effort to alter her message in order to gain some traction, is the notion that she has been “vetted” and he has not. In other words, she has been through the grinder, thus her armor is thick.

All the bad stuff that can be thrown at her already has been, she argues, she is more experienced she argues, she has solutions instead of rhetoric, and that gives her the advantage. She said this past week in an interview, “One thing you know about me is that I have been vetted. I’ve been through this. I understand exactly what is coming at me, and there isn’t any new information. I mean, it’s just more of the same. It’s been recycled over and over again. I don’t think we can say that about my opponent.”

Really?

I think that may be wishful thinking.

Once you engage in ‘questionalble’ financial and legal activities in your quest to become a power broker in the is country, you must live with your decision - forever.

Why should he?

Another day, another win for Huckabee in Kansas. If you talk to him, it’s just another day at the office in fulfilling his goal of coming from behind, riding the back of disgruntled conservatives who simply despise McCain, and pulling even in delegates (if Romney throws him his support - and the rumor mill is turning).

Huckabee trounced McCain in Kansas 62% to 22%. And afterwards, when interviewed, he used a Superbowl analogy, “the Giants didn’t quit half way through the fourth, and neither am I.”

Remember, this is the same guy who lost Missouri by a hair, and if he had won, things would really be interesting.

His appeal? He is really likable and intelligent sounding.

I’ve been watching his campaign since he was solidly in long-shot status back in September of ‘07. Even then, after seeing him on a few cable opinion magazines, I said to myself that this guy could be the Republicans diamond-in-the-rough. And you know what…he may very well be.

The only thing that can push the momentum back to Hillary Clinton is a California win. As stated in a prior post, her poll numbers are spotty at best.

The real story at 10:26 EST is Mike Huckabee.

A Zogby poll shows Obama coming from over 30 points down to tie or even lead Clinton…and that must have the Clinton campaign worried.

These numbers are down right shocking, considering Clinton, a longtime California favorite, saw her once-commanding lead slip to two percentage points, 36 to 34 percent, in the new survey. Of course 18 percent of Democratic voters are still undecided as of yesterday when polled, but Obama seems to be making headway with them as well.

In fact, Obama is leading California in four major polls, including Reuters and Rasmussen.

Don’t look for a Democrat or Republican coronation of any presidential nominees on Super Tuesday, 2008. The math doesn’t add up.
The race for delegates is extremely close in both parties - the closest in thirty years, and it is mathematically impossible for any candidate to lock up the nomination on Feb. 5.
Here’s why:
